About me

Qualifications and training

I have a BA (Hons) in English literature with French language and literature (via the Combined Studies flexible honours programme) from the University of Manchester, UK. I joined a scientific publishing house, Institute of Physics Publishing, after graduation and trained as a copyeditor in house and at the Publishing Training Centre in London. I am a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), which means I have provided evidence to the Board of CIEP that I have attained a professional standard in my editorial work.

Experience

I’ve been a freelance editor since 2008, focusing on non-fiction, often highly complex, content. I have worked with clients around the world on a wide variety of subjects and in many different formats. Below is a brief summary.

Journals: Having worked for both scholarly and commercial publishers for several years, I have been involved in every stage that journal manuscripts go through, from first draft to final proof. I have proofread or copyedited countless scientific journal pages, primarily on physics.

Books: I have copyedited books on many subjects, including sociology, maths, history, literature, geology, economics and globalization. These have been published by major imprints such as Palgrave Macmillan and Routledge, among others.

Reports: I work regularly with international associations and intergovernmental organisations on reports on topics such as international development, tertiary education, nuclear safety, medical imaging and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Other: I have proofread KS1 and KS2 national examination papers and copyedited online learning resources. Using InDesign, I have designed, laid out and edited newsletters, product guides and marketing materials, and I have extensive experience in magazine production.
